The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed banks to identify and close immediately any FIRS tax and levy collection accounts which were not authorised under the TaxPro Max platform.

This directive to all banks participating in the FIRS Collection, Remittance and Reconciliation Scheme, is part of the continuing efforts by the apex tax regulatory agency to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection processes.

The TaxPro Max is a homegrown tax administration platform which streamlines and facilitates tax-related activities such as registration, filing, payment issuance of tax clearance certificates and so forth.

According to a public notice to effect of the directive to the banks by the FIRS chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji and released to media by the Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, it is one of the efforts to boost efficiency and transparency in tax collection, ensure uniformity and seamless reconciliation of tax payments.

The Directive to Close Unauthorised FIRS Tax Collection Accounts, reads in part, “effectively immediately, all tax and levy collections on behalf of FIRS must be processed exclusively pursuant to an assessment raised on the TaxPro Max platform.”

“All banks participating in the FIRS Collection, Remittance and Reconciliation Scheme are hereby advised to comply with this directive within the stipulated period.

“We count on your cooperation to ensure a smooth transition to this centralised system, thereby contributing to a more transparent and efficient tax collection process,” the statement said.

Further, FIRS urged taxpayers and stakeholders to contact Revenue Accounting and Refund Department (RAAD) in FIRS for any clarifications or support regarding the directive.
