Gunmen Kidnap Policeman In Bauchi

Gunmen on Friday night attacked Toro town in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State and reportedly kidnapped a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police.

According to reports, immediately the gunmen stormed the town, they started shooting sporadically, throwing the whole town into serious confusion as residents scampered for safety.

A source in the town, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the gunmen stormed the town at about 9.00pm in their numbers well armed with sophisticated weapons, shot into the air causing pandemonium among the residents.

He said the recurrent incidents of kidnappings for ransom in Toro Local Government has affected the economic activities of the area in recent times as people are afraid of going to do business in the area for fear of being kidnapped.

The Member representing Toro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ismail Dabo, who reacted to the incident, condemned it and called for calm.

Dabo who described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable considering the current economic situation, assured the people of continued legislative interventions to bring an end to the security challenges bedeviling them.

All efforts made to get the reaction to the confirmation of the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful.

Several calls to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, were not answered. He did not also reply to a message seeking his confirmation sent to him on WhatsApp as of the time of filing this report.
