In what is interpreted as an upgrade in status, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has named the Chairman of Gwaram local government area of the state, Prof. Abdulrahman Salim Lawal as a Commissioner in his cabinet.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, confirmed the development when he read the communication from the Executive conveying the request during the House sitting on Tuesday.
Already the nominee has appeared before the lawmakers on Tuesday where he was screened and his nomination confirmed by the 30-member assembly during its sitting.
In his brief remark after the confirmation of the appointment, Dangyatin said the inclusion of Prof. Salim as a cabinet commissioner would, no doubt, facilitate the attainment of the Namadi administration’s 12-Point agenda.
The commissioner-designate, a professor of Animal Science is expected to be named as the commissioner overseeing the newly created Ministry of Animal Husbandry from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Until his election as the Gwaram council boss in October last year, Salim was senior lecturer at the Department of Agriculture at the Federal University Dutse, the state capital
