Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has allayed the fears of the people on his possible exit from office following the ruling of the Election Petition Tribunal on Monday which nullified the state governorship election held in November 19, 2019 and ordered for a fresh election, saying that he is entitled to appeal the ruling up to the supreme court.
Already, Governor Douye Diri said he has instructed his Lawyers to appeal the Tribunal’s ruling.
The tribunal sitting in Abuja had while delivering majority judgment read by Justice Yunusa Musa on Monday voided the election on the bases that Advance National Democratic Party (ANDP) was unlawfully excluded from participating in the election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Tribunal directed that a fresh election be conducted in Bayelsa within 90 days of delivering the judgement.
However, Governor Diri who appeared unperturbed by the Tribunal’s ruling, expressed confidence in the verdict of the upper court which he hoped would hear the appeal.
In a statement signed by Diri’s Ag. Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said he would appeal the judgment.
The statement read, “We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice.
“This is a court of first instance and I have instructed our lawyers to file an appeal. We have a right of appeal even up to the Supreme Court.”
