A prominent member of the Zikist Movement and Nigeria’s first Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi is dead.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Ezeana Tagbo Amaechi on behalf of the family, the nonagenarian died in the early hours of today, November 1, 2022.

OPTIMUM TIMES recalls that Amechi was at the forefront of seeking solutions on restoration of peace and security in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Early this year, he had led a delegate of the South East Elders to meet President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, during which, he pleaded with the President to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to him as part of the political solutions to guarantee peace in the South East.

Unfortunately, his wish and request were neither realized nor granted till he died.

Until his death, Amechi, who hailed from Amihe village in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was a nationalist, and one of the very few surviving member of the Zikist Movement led by first President of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Amechi was also a member of the Anambra Elders Forum, the highest State Advisory body that has Chief Emeka Anyaoku as the Chairman.
