FG Disposed To Partner With Investors Towards Enhancing Power Sector Infrastructure, Minister

The Federal Government has reiterated that it is disposed to going into partnership with investors in its commitment towards improving power sector infrastructure.

Minister of Power, Abubakar D. Aliyu emphasized this commitment while receiving delegates of European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS led by EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Samuela Isopi, in his office, Friday.

He stated that President Muhammadu is committed and working hard towards repositioning the infrastructural development in power sector.

While explaining the Nigeria’s electricity supply industry value chain process, the Minister described European Union’s relationship with Nigeria as being supportive.

He said more of EU collaboration in the renewable energy is welcomed and informed the delegates of Nigeria’s policy to expand the operation capacity of the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to 30,000 MW by the year 30.30 with 30% in renewable energy.

Abubakar, urged investors to key into the available opportunities in the NESI since government has created the enabling environment through policy direction.

In the statement, he cited the Government to Government collaboration between the German Government and Nigeria Government which led the Federal Government of Nigeria to sign a Power project deal with Siemens AG, a Germany based firm and urged the EU Ambassador to encourage European investors assuring that there are rooms to accommodate more investors.

Speaking earlier, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS Samuela Isopi congratulated the Minister of Power on his appointment and the success recorded so far in the Power Sector.

Isopi affirmed the importance of Nigeria to the European Union, stating that EU is the largest grant donor to the power sector, and had in the last two years been developing a dynamic partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria, to relaunch and boost electricity supply with a road map plan of action with priority areas.

She said that the cooperation framework in Green and digital economy, is to see that there is renewable energy and diversification which the EU is available to assist.

The EU Ambassador assured the Minister of Power, of the European Union continuous support towards solving the challenges in the power sector.
