Two university-based unions of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) Jigawa state have joined in the nation wide protest against the non-payment of their four-month withheld salaries by the federal government.
The Unions which included the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and other Allied Institutions (NASU) have, therefore, enjoined the federal government to do the needful by immediately settling their salaries.
NASU Chairman Federal University Dutse, (FUD) , Com. Alhassan Abdullahi made the demand on behalf of the two unions after the protest at the University.
He said, the members of the unions resolved to protest to show their dismay over the federal government decision to pay ASUU the four months withheld salaries leaving other members of the associations.
According to him” we are staging this protest to show our concern over the Federal Government decision to pay one segment of the universities union members ASUU and refused to pay other unions members their four months withheld salaries “
“Why the Federal Government pay one union only and leaving the other, are we not all staff”
He explained that, the unions would embark on warning strike if Government failed to respond to their demand.
Recall that the Unions met with the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Education, which ended without any convincing commitment to the payment of the withheld salaries and resolutions of other pending issues.
The leadership of the unions have, therefore, mandated their chapters in various universities across the country to commence sensitisation activities beginning from Monday, 8 July, while also calling for a protest on the campuses on Tuesday 9 July.
