The Department of State Services, (DSS) has arrested controversial activist, Mahdi Shehu at the weekend, probably in connection with generating fake reports on alleged establishment of French military base in Nigeria .
Although, it could not be ascertained the exact details leading to his arrest, OPTIMUM TIMES suspects that he may have been trailed to Kaduna.
OPTIMUM TIMES recalled that Niger Republic had falsely accused Nigeria of working with French military to destabilize its country which the Presidency and the Nigerian military have denied.
The accusation was part of the fallout of Mahdi Shehu’s fake video, on national security matter, which has gone viral.

Sources revealed that the DSS operatives had expected him to voluntarily give details on the fake video, but he declined, prompting his arrest at the weekend.
He is to be arraigned in court soon over charges bothering on security matters and attempted instigation of diplomatic row between nations, it was further leant.
The Nigerian Army had earlier swiftly debunked the claims by Mahdi on establishment of French military base in Nigeria.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Headquarters Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai, described his claims as unfounded in a statement issued on Monday, December 16.
He said: “We categorically state that there is no French military base in Maiduguri, nor are there any plans to establish one in the North East Theatre of Operation. The video in question depicts the Acting GOC 7 Division, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, addressing the press alongside a member of the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT).
“This event occurred on 25 October 2024, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, during the handover of equipment donated to OPHK by BMATT, which was received by the Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shaibu.”
