The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has unveiled plans for the second edition of Insurance Week 2026, expanding the campaign into a nationwide movement aimed at deepening insurance penetration, promoting financial literacy, and redefining public perception of insurance in Nigeria.

The week-long programme, themed “Insurance: A Future Redefined,” will run from May 15 to 22 across Lagos and all CIIN chapters nationwide, marking what industry stakeholders describe as the most extensive insurance awareness campaign in the country’s history.

President and Chairman of Council of CIIN, Yetunde Olubunmi Ilori, said the initiative had become a national call to action to address Nigeria’s low insurance penetration rate, currently estimated at below one per cent of GDP.

She said the industry could no longer afford to remain disconnected from the realities of millions of Nigerians, stressing that Insurance Week was designed to take insurance conversations directly to markets, schools, MSMEs, and grassroots communities.

As part of activities lined up for the event, CIIN will launch insurance literacy books for primary and secondary school students, while the second edition of the InsurQuest Hackathon will showcase technology-driven solutions developed by young innovators to tackle industry challenges.

Chairman of the Insurance Week 2026 Planning Committee, Funmi Omo, said the campaign would feature simultaneous market engagements in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, and other cities, alongside school outreaches and MSME sensitisation programmes.

The event will climax with a Gala Night and Awards Ceremony on May 22, where individuals and organisations promoting insurance awareness will be honoured.

CIIN said the expanded initiative builds on the success of the inaugural 2025 edition, which recorded direct insurance sales, youth innovation breakthroughs, and large-scale public engagement across the country.
