Ensuring Effective implementation of his investiture speech, the less than three months President, Chattered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mr Eddie Effekoha has commenced procedures to create a New Phase in the insurance education system.
The CIIN President stated that the Institute is also discussing awards to the 2018 best graduating students, the discussions he stated started with Lagos State University (LASU) and university of Lagos (UNILAG).
The President who shared the Institute’s achievement and plans with Newsmen said that the institute recently signed a MOU with the University of Lagos State (UNILAG), to institute the Master’s degree program, he said the action was taken following the need to collaborate with some of the Universities.
“We no longer have to go to London to obtain a Masters degree on insurance and risk management initiatives, doing this we believe the entry requirements will take note of the exam conducted by the Institute”. Effekoha said
Other Universities in collaboration with the Institute are Delta State University, the institute opened a discussion with Delta State University to start up Insurance. The institute also discussed with BABCOCK to commence insurance education in Bsc level.
In furtherance, Effekoha who promised that the institute will continue it’s focus on its examination pointed out that the college of Insurance and financial management is used as a venue for it’s examination
” we no longer go to yaba Presbyterian Church anymore, that has saved us money and has also earned us money because whatever we pay still goes back to the college.”
He stated that the CIIN management was happy during the just concluded October examination, the college hostel which is 50 room hostel was fully booked, students had the opportunity to do their final revision in a quiet and a conducive environment and avoided all traffic challenges.
Following the availability of the standard hostel, the president believes that the just concluded October exam will be better that previous ones
He also recalled that last year the institute started discussion and collaboration with Universities of London, CASS business school, a faculty in the university of Lagos
On the awards he said “those sponsorship will equally be long lasting in their minds and will point them to the industry even if they don’t have the intention originally in their minds.”
Effekoha promises to extend the the push to recruit youths in the Institute beyond Lagos NYSC camp to other states
On Infrastructural development, he said that in a bid to improve insurance education and professionalism, the institute also targeted building an auditorium.
The council he said has approved that N50million, part of the funds gotten from NAICOM should be reserved for the building.
“The delay you noticed is as a result of the need to fine tune all the papers involved in the project, so we are not judged by the posterity of the building”. He explained.
