Campaign Violence: Police Disperse Campaign Groups In Jigawa

The police in Jigawa on Tuesday dispersed group of youths rooting for the governorship candidature of the state deputy governor, Umar Namadi for the forthcoming elections.

The development followed the alleged disagreement between the the members of the group over the modus operandi to carry out the campaign and sharing of logistics of the campaign

Optimum Times gathered that the youths under the auspices of the Dan Modi Youths Concern, (DYC) mobilized to embark to sensitize the public to vote for the deputy governor in the March 9, 2023 gubernatorial elections.

However, it was gathered that trouble broke out when some of the youths disagreed with the organizers of the sharing of rice meant to be shared to the motherless babies’ homes as well as the distribution of campaign dresses.

While confirming the development, the spokesman of the state Police command, DSP Lawal Shisu Adam said police of Dutse Division had to quickly intervene in the crisis before normalcy was returned

Adam explained that the command received the report that, “a political group under the aegis of Danmodi Youths Concerned (DYC) organized a political rally in support of one of the governorship candidate”.

He maintained that they gathered at Investment area of Dutse metropolis, with a plan to visit orphanage center and go round the city

He said “as said in the process and distributions of some material in relation with the rally shirts and other items they got misunderstanding within themselves and broke among them selves”.

Adam added that that is why police quickly intervened and dispatched them in order to maintain peace.

Presently one person who was said to have made a dangerous driving and caused injuries to some people had been declared wanted, and will be arrest and prosecuted.

Efforts to contact the organizer proved abortive as he was nowhere to be found and his mobile not reachable.
