Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, the wife of late Nigerian head of state, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, is dead.
The former first lady passed on Monday at 97. She would have been 98 on November 21, 2021.
Victoria’s husband Aguiyi-Ironsi was the supreme commander of the National Military Government for six months before being overthrown and assassinated in the 1966 Nigerian counter-coup.
The details of her death are yet to emerge as at press time of report.
Meanwhile, Former Deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, a former Presidential aspirant has condoled with the families of late Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi as well as the Late Chief Adanma Okpara.
In a tweet via of @MoghaluKingsley handle, he said: “Sad to learn of the passing of the wives of two great Nigerian leaders, Lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, wife of former military Head of State (Jan-July 1966) Gen. Thomas Aguiyi Ironsi, and lady Adamma Michael Okpara, wife of former Premier of the Eastern Region Dr. Michael Okpara, both aged 97.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace. I offer my deep condolences to the Ironsi and Okpara families.These women went through a lot in support of their great husbands. Supportive wives to men in positions of political leadership play important but often unsung roles.
