BREAKING NEWS: Justice Bulkachuwa Finally Recuse Herself From Presidential Election Petition Tribunal

The President of Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa, has recused herself from  participating or chairing the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Justice Bulkachuwa, who by virtue of her position ought to have presided over the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, was opposed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on grounds of her husband being a Senator-elect under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

PDP had insisted that Justice Bulkachuwa recuse herself from presiding over the tribunal or being a member of its members to ensure fairness.

APC is the ruling party of the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari whose election is being challenged by the Presidential candidate of the PDP.

According to PDP Tweets through its verified Twitter handle  @OfficialPDPNig, the part stated “Breaking News! The embattled President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa has recused herself from participating or chairing the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal based on personal reasons.

“While the @OfficialPDPNig
stood its grounds based on Justice Bulkachuwa’s culpable affiliation to the APC by virtue of her husband and son’s membership of the Party, the APC and INEC based their arguments on conventions and gender #RescueNigeria

“However, the APC lead counsel, Chief Olanikpekun, SAN, at the end of his arguments actually agreed with the PDP that Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa should disqualify herself from the Tribunal and step aside #RescueNigeria

“..of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to disqualify herself from the Presidential Tribunal. Parties from both sides deliberated in open court on reasons why she should recuse herself from charing the Presidential.”
