Tragedy has struck in Jigawa state, when an 18- year-old boy was drowned in a local pond while trying frantically to rescue his cow, which fell into into the pond.
Reports from the state indicated that Adamu Musa of Ungwar Magina community in Buji local government himself fell into a pond while grazing around the area. But the cow was later rescued alive.
The spokesman of the State Command Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, said the incident occurred occurred on Saturday afternoon.
According to him, “The unfortunate incident occurred Saturday, 3rd of September, 2022t around 02:00pm when the young man took two of his cows to the farm and let them loose to feed from the grasses nearby.
“Sadly, however, one of the cows slipped and fell into a pond located close to the farm where they were grazing.”
He explained that on noticing the development Adamu rushed to rescue his cow, but was drowned, saying that the lifeless body of the teenager was only recovered at about 1:00 am on Sunday after about 12- hours of a combined efforts of the locals and the NSCDC personnel.
“He was thoroughly examined, confirmed dead and handed over to his parents for proper burial while the cow was rescued alive.”
