Nigeria’s aviation and insurance sectors have committed to a coordinated approach for industry growth, following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened to address critical issues affecting both industries.
The meeting which was held Wednesday in Abuja was chaired by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), the session brought together key government and industry leaders focused on bolstering collaboration between the two sectors.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Sen. Munkhail Abiru; and Chairman of the House Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters, Hon. Ahmed Jaha.
Representatives from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), the Nigeria Insurers Association, the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria were also present, underscoring the importance of cross-sector support for Nigeria’s evolving aviation and insurance landscape.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Keyamo expressed gratitude to all participants for attending and underscored the significance of the meeting for both the operational needs of airline operators and the expansion of Nigeria’s insurance market.
He emphasized that closer alignment between aviation and insurance stakeholders is essential to address the unique challenges each sector faces and to leverage synergies that would contribute to the growth of both industries.
A key outcome of the session was the agreement to convene a broader, high-level meeting early next year, involving Nigerian representatives, international lessors, and financiers.
This upcoming engagement aims to strengthen Nigeria’s access to international financing and leasing opportunities, which are critical for sustaining and expanding aviation operations in the country.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both sectors to prioritize coordinated efforts that will bolster Nigeria’s standing in the global aviation and insurance markets, paving the way for more sustainable growth.
