Armed Hoodlums Rob Students’ Of Phones, Cash, Other Items

Armed hoodlums operating within Abraka Community in Delta State, attacked various students in their hostels in the state owned university (DELSU), and carted away over 160 telephone handsets including hugh sums of cash .

It was gathered that the armed hoodlums started their operation at the popular hostel in Ekerejeta area of Abraka town before they swooped on others around 5:30am at gun point.

A victim and an undergraduate of the university, Mary Osakwe who informed our Reporter said: “The armed hoodlums at gun point, ordered us to face the ground in our hostels, they took our plasma television, Ipad, four pairs of shoes, and  clothes. They were more than five and armed with sophisticated guns, they scaled our hostel 5’ fence”.

She disclosed that armed hoodlums under the guise of operatives of the vigilante, came knocking on their doors upon their refusal they were forced opened.

Investigation revealed that it was the their third time armed hoodlums were attacking DELSU hostels, particularly the female hostels and made away with many undisclosed sums of money including their victims’ properties.

Meanwhile, burglars broke into the female hostels around 9:30 pm and reportedly made away with properties of some of the students who had traveled out of the town.

Among the rooms they were said to have broken into, one of it belongs to a 400 level Geography student, Rosemary Obihi who also sells phone accessories, where the hoodlums allegedly made away with many of her accessories worth over N2 million.

But the Police Image Maker in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the robbery incident, told our Reporter that: “The police arrested two of the suspects, and are currently being interrogated at Abraka Police Division”, adding that upon the interrogation, he confessed to be native of Kogi State who had been operating in Abraka town with the help of an indigenes.

DSP Aniamaka said: “The Internal Security Networks in the university are not doing enough to arrest the situation, we have deployed more policemen to Abraka town for 48 hours patrol”.

Speaking to our Reporter, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Victor Peretemode said: “We are working with a view to change our security net work, we will bring the hoodlums to book soon”.
