Dutse, the Jigawa state came to a virtual standstill on Saturday as the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) received decampees from the three main opposition parties in the state.
The decampees included chieftains from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP) and the newly formed African Democratic Congress, (ADC)
On hand to receive the decampees at an impressive ceremony at Dutse stadium was a high powered delegation from the party’s national headquarters led by the National Chairman, Prof. Netawe Goshwe Yilwatda
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, while the governors of Katsina and Sokoto, Dr. Dikko Radda and Dr. Ahmed Aliyu were represented by their deputies in solidarity with their counterpart Umar Namadi of Jigawa.
President Tinubu assured the decampees of equal treatment in all party affairs and urged them to feel free and contribute their quota to the national development.
The president gave an assurance for the expedited completion of the Kano-Maiduguri highway, while also pledging his administration’s commitment to tackling the insecurity bedeviling parts of the country.
The national chairman of the party described APC as party beat, noting that it had room to accommodate all its members, irrespective of when they joined it.
The APC boss expressed delight with the state government’s development efforts, saying, “We’re happy with the governor because we’ve seen your efforts in the areas of education health roads and social infrastructure development.”
Governor Namadi described the influx of the people from opposition parties into APC as Mark of appreciation of President Tinubu’s remarkable leadership of the country which is also being replicated at the state level.
Namadi described the detection as highest number of such defection in the political history of the state, assuring that all the decampees would be given equal treatment within the political structure the state.
