Aisha Buhari on arrived from Dubai for Neck pain treatment

Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha M. Buhari has urged healthcare providers to take advantage of the Federal Government’s initiative through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines for the operation of NGN100 Billion Credit Support for the Healthcare Sector.

She made the call on return from Dubai, United Arab Emirates for treatment of neck pain, recalling that the challenge of the health sector had been capacity building and funding.

First Lady who through series of tweets via @aishambuhari, also thanked Nigerians for their prayers for her recovery just as some Nigerians berated her for traveling abroad despite the lockdown for her treatment.

According to Aisha Buhari, “I want to use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians for their prayers and well wishes while I was away for medical treatment . I am well now and fully recovered and have since returned back home, Nigeria.

On our way back, the Nigerian Airforce Flight encountered a violent clear air turbulence which was navigated safely and professionally by the Captain and crew of the Flight.

“I want to commend and appreciate the courage and professionalism of the Captain and his crew, the wonderful gallant service men and women of the entire Nigerian Airforce for their dedication to duty and the quality of maintainance of its Fleet.

“I recall hosting the private healthcare Providers earlier in the year and we had a very productive engagement where the issue of building the capacity of Nigeria health sector was the major focus, and funding was discovered to be the major challenge.

“I therefore call on the healthcare providers to take the advantage of the Federal Government’s initiative through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines for the operation of NGN100 Billion Credit Support for the Healthcare Sector as was released recently contained in a circular dated March 25, 2020 to the Commercial Banks.

“This will no doubt help in building and expanding the capacity of the Nigerian health sector and ultimately reduce medical trips and tourism outside the Country.

“Once again, I thank our frontline workers, and all Nigerians for their steadfast as we navigate the challenges facing the entire world”

However, some Nigerians responded via Twitter saying: Blaque @IamSassie “What nonsense example? Even if she takes herbal medicine, haters are still gonna hate. Pls free our President’s wife biko”;
Ayeni Oluwaseun @omoayeni01
“You are welcome, now that the neck pain is gone The next treatment can he done at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan. At least, you will be able to turn your neck around & condemn the senseless killings in Southern Kaduna When are u going to speak?”; Jude Ekwedike @jekwedike “Thank you for, to some extent, addressing my concern regarding medical trips abroad. Although, you r not a policy maker, you can help shape d direction of this country more than any adviser. You have the ears of PMB day & night, & your statement, though well-intended, runs short”.

Other critics further stated: Jude Ekwedike @jekwedike “We can do so much better than relying on the private sector to.lead on this crucial aspect of government’s responsibility. As much as the assistance to the private sector is appreciated, government has to lead. I want 2 hear of some bold initiatives in this sector from this govt”; Abiodun Jamiu @_Abiodun_Jamiu “I’ve always maintained that Nigeria is currently not working for all. Imagine using public fund to travel abroad for treatment only to return to preach against medical tourism. Isn’t that hypocrisy?. This is more or less a big joke on millions of Nigerians who have no access to quality/decent healthcare system.”
