As Air Peace Commends Pilot and Crew

Air Peace aircraft, Boeing 737-300 with registration Number 5N-BQO, approaching Lagos from Port Harcourt has made an emergency landing at the 18R of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport leaving it nose wheel damaged.

Captain Simisola Ajibola, the pilot of the aircraft which was supposed to land at the domestic runway narrated that she noticed sudden weather changes which resulted to her demand to land on the International runway as it is longer and wider than the domestic runway.

The Pilot and her crew received commendations from her employer for handling the situation which happened Tuesday at 11:28am

According to a statement by the Chief Operating Officer, Mrs Toyin Olajide stated that the aircraft, after landing safely and rolling to the runway exit, the nose gear developed a problem and partial collapsed.

“The crew notified the airport authorities who quickly ensured the safe disembarkation of the passengers via the passenger door. We are committed to the safety of our passengers at all time.”

”We will continue to operate in line with international practices and in accordance with regulatory guidelines. We are being assisted by the various authorities to determine to cause of the incident,” she stated

Reacting to the incident, the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) stated through a statement that the bureau have commenced investigations.

According to the investigative body, the aircraft, with 133 passengers and 6 crew members on board, after the incident had minor Injury but no fatality.

“From the information provided, the aircraft nose wheel collapsed on landing on the runway (18R) and the nose wheel gear tire sheared off,”

“As the investigating agency, AIB needs and hereby solicits for your help. We want the public to know that we would be amenable to receiving any video clip, relevant evidence, or information any members of the public may have of the accident; that can assist us with this investigation,” the investigators solicit.
