After more than 300 years without potable drinking water, succour eventually came for the people of Gwari village in Dutse local government area, courtesy of the Umar Namadi-led administration.
This is despite the proximity of the community to Dutse, the state capital, just about seven kilometers away from the Government House, the seat of government.
The hearty development followed persistent media focus on the hilly community, which scarcity has caused untold hardship on the residents who have to travel long on donkeys to access drinking water from the only hand pump and a well within the community.
Speaking at the commissioning of the N100 million water project, Governor Umar Namadi said, the plight of the community in respect of the water scarcity was brought to the attention of the state by Hausa Service of one foreign radio stations.
He said following the report, he had the opportunity of paying a condolence visit to the area following the death of their Chief Imam where the community formally presented their plight to him, and from there, he promised them to do something for them.
The governor, who was accompanied to the area by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyantin and other top government officials said the provision of accessible and clean drinking water for the people of the area was part of his 12 point agenda, therefore his government is ready to collaborate with any partner and commit all necessary resources for achieving the desired goals.
“In pursuence of our water supply goals today we also commissioned a water project to end the decades of water scarcity in Gwari village of Dutse local government”.
“The excitement and happiness we have seen in the facess of over 4,000 inhabitants of Gwari community during the commissioning of the water supply Project has shown that we are on track “
“We promised to end the water scarcity in Gwari village and today we have fulfill the promise, by constructing Solar powered motorize borehole with water pipe line rraticulation of over two kilometers accross the community” Governor Namadi declared.
He charged the community to take complete and full ownership by ensuring that the equipment were neither vandalised nor stolen by undesirable elements, noting that if properly handled, the facilities could supply water to the community for upwaardt of 25 years non-stop.
The governor also later commissionied the newly rehabilitated offices of Water Board, Small Town Water Supply Board, Urban and Rural Water Supply Board of the state and distributed 36 motorcycle for strengthen monitoring water pipeline across the state
He warned civil servant in the state against lexity or absentisism of duty as his government is committed to provide enabling working environment to them for strengthen public service delivery ” We will maintained timely payment of workers entitlement and welfare, while the ethics of rewards and punishment will be uphold.” the Governor declared
Speaking in Gwari village, the Emir of Dutse, Muhammad Hameen Nuhu Sanusi , has commended Jigawa state government for Libera ting the community from decades of water scarcity.
“It is in record, this is the first and major water facility ever constructed for Gwari community, I am happy to see my people now have source of clean water and it will help in eradicating many water bound disease from the community ” The emir stated
