No fewer than 28 insurance and pension regulators and operators have backed the 11th annual conference of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE), scheduled to hold Thursday in Lagos.
The conference, which will take place at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, has also been rescheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the same day.
NAIPE said the adjustment was made to enable insurance operators attending the Insurers Committee meeting earlier in the day to conclude the meeting and participate in the conference.
The conference, themed “Post-Recapitalisation and Market Dynamics in Insurance & Pension Sectors,” will examine emerging developments in both sectors following the conclusion of the insurance industry’s recapitalisation exercise and the ongoing recapitalisation process in the pension industry.
The Chief Executive Officer of United Capital Asset Management Limited, Dr. Odiri Oginni, is expected to deliver the keynote address from the insurance perspective, while the Founder and Managing Partner of HRISP Partners, Mr. Oguche Aguda, will present a paper focusing on the pension sector.
The Group Managing Director of Custodian Investment Plc, Mr. Wole Oshin, will chair the conference.
According to NAIPE, the conference comes at a critical period for both industries, with insurance operators having concluded their recapitalisation exercise on July 31, 2026, while pension operators are expected to complete a similar exercise in 2027.
The discussions will focus particularly on how the additional capital raised through recapitalisation can be strategically invested and deployed to generate stronger returns, deepen market confidence and improve service delivery to investors, shareholders and policyholders.
Expected participants include the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Omosehin; the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran; chief executives of insurance companies, broking firms, investment and securities companies and Pension Fund Administrators, as well as regulators, labour unions, students and other stakeholders.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Chairperson of NAIPE, Mrs. Ebere Nwoji, said the annual gathering provides insurance and pension journalists with an opportunity to contribute to the development of the sectors by promoting public understanding of insurance and pension as instruments of financial security and protection against old-age poverty.
Nwoji expressed appreciation to regulators and operators for their continued support for the conference, saying the benefits derived from the annual gathering outweigh the resources committed to organising it.
She described this year’s theme as timely, given the structural changes taking place across the insurance and pension industries through recapitalisation.
Nwoji particularly commended NAICOM for concluding the insurance industry’s recapitalisation exercise, describing it as a major achievement for Omosehin.
She said the Commissioner had “took the bull by the horns” in breaking what she described as a longstanding cycle of inconclusive recapitalisation exercises in the insurance industry.
She also expressed optimism that the pension industry, under the leadership of Oloworaran, would achieve a seamless and successful recapitalisation exercise.
According to Nwoji, the conference would provide operators with practical insights into the prudent and judicious investment of capital raised through recapitalisation.
“I am confident that speakers at the event would provide practical perspectives on how insurance and pension operators can deploy their strengthened capital bases to deliver superior investment returns while enhancing value for investors, shareholders and policyholders,” she said.
NAICOM, PenCom, SanlamAllianz, Veritas Kapital and 24 other organisations have offered their support and partnership towards the conference.
