The President, Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the Kano State Government and Council of Chiefs over the death of the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila Auta Bawo.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari joined the emir’s family and the Rano Emirate in mourning the royal father.
He said that the monarch’s words of wisdom, nobility, and decency would be sorely missed, “especially at a time the government is relying on traditional rulers to sensitise citizens on directives for safety”.
The statement added, “President Buhari urges his family and the Emirate to find solace in the good works of the deceased and ensure his legacies are carried on.
“The President prays that the almighty God will forgive the shortcomings of the Emir, remember his good works and grant his soul eternal rest.“
The Emir died in Kano on Saturday at the age 75 and it is unclear whether his illness was related to COVID-19.
A member of the House of Representatives and Turakin Rano, Alhassan Rurum, confirmed the death of the emir.
Reports say that the emir was hospitalised at the Amin Kano Teaching Hospital before being referred to Nasarawa specialist Hospital.
