2021: TCN Takes Stock Of Performance As Managing Director Assures More Efficiency In 2022

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken stock of its performance, noting that despite the challenges in the outgoing year, it was able to effectively reduce frequency of system disturbance and collapse resulting in an all-time national peak generation of 5,801.40MW.

The Acting Managing Director, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, stated this while reviewing the company’s performance in the year, 2021, Tuesday, assuring more efficiency in 2022.

According to him in an address made available to Journalists, “In the course of the year, strategic management decisions have paid off, enabling the completion of several abandoned projects, prompt maintenance, upgrade and repair/restoration of vandalized transmission lines and facilities, installation of new transformers and substations, re-calibration and reconfiguration of transmission lines and transformer protection schemes.

“We take pride in the fact that these measures effectively reduced the frequency of system disturbance and collapse. resulting in an all-time national peak generation of 5,801.40MW, which was successfully transmitted on 1% March 2021. This is a is quite commendable.

“Other milestone achievements include the creation of Kano Region, bringing to ten (10), TCN’s regional operations centers in the country. To further enhance operational efficiency, we are building over thirty-two office complexes nationwide, including Regional, Sub-regional offices and Work Centers.

“While they are at various stages of completion, the new Port Harcourt Regional Office in Rivers State has been completed and commissioned. We have also provided work tools and safety equipment, spare parts, test equipment, among others, to ensure a more conducive working environment and efficiency.”

Engr. Abdulaziz recalled further that the company’s first Management retreat was held this year to re-strategize, adding that it increased efficiency and rebranding of the company among others.

“To sustain capacity building, we embarked on training and retraining of all cadres of staff; the most significant being the collaboration between TCN and the World Bank in which we trained 708 engineers.

“Management also gave sustained attention to human resources issues. Accordingly, we sensitized all staff on the reviewed 2020 Conditions of Service and Career Progression Paths. 2021 promotion exercise was also conducted even as we recorded unprecedented improvement in industrial harmony with the two in-house labour unions maintaining healthy relations throughout the year”, he enumerated.

He noted that the achievements were accomplished notwithstanding challenges such as the Right of Way encroachment, Way leave issues, funding, natural disaster, vandalism of infrastructure and facilities as well as insecurity.

However, he stated that to address these challenges, the company has continued to engage the appropriate stakeholders and authorities with a view to minimizing their impact on its operations nationwide.

He expressed optimism on the more achievements in 2022 and beyond, assuring “we will intensify our efforts on repositioning TCN as a world class transmission service provider and system operator in line with our Vision, Mission, and Core Values through effective rebranding strategies.
