The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged all Nigerian Workers to remain steadfast and committed for an indefinite nationwide strike in an event that the federal government remain unyielding to resolve the demands which prompted the just concluded two-day warning strike.
NLC which made the appeal to the Nigerian workers, applauded them for their commitments and supports which facilitated the success of the warning strike.
OPTIMUM TIMES reports that the NLC had mobilized the Nigerian workers for a two-day warning strike, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th September, in protest against the hardship associated with the removal of fuel subsidy and the reluctance of the Federal government to quickly put in place meaningful palliative measures to reduce the hardship being encountered by the masses.
In a memo by the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Wednesday night, to all affiliates and Chairpersons, NLC state councils, he further urged workers to go back work as the warning strike expired Wednesday midnight.
According to him, “We are pleased to report that, thanks to your resolute commitment, we have made significant strides in achieving the goals set during our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which prompted the initiation of this warning strike. It is abundantly clear that our united message has resonated loudly with the government, and it would take a truly inattentive ear not to hear it.
“As we mark the end of the two-day nationwide warning strike today, at the stroke of midnight, we earnestly call upon you all to gracefully conclude the strike and return to work tomorrow, in accordance with our initial agreement.
“In the event that the government fails to provide the appropriate responses to our demands, we encourage you to maintain your steadfast resolve. The same passion and determination that fueled this warning strike will be crucial if we find ourselves compelled to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike.
