The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has assured its stakeholders that all the data and information in its recently unveiled real-time digital portal are secured as the commission has provided all the security needed to curb cybercrime in the portal.
NAICOM which is undergoing transformation from the inside out has set out a target to ultimately achieve an end to end automation of all its processes.
The Commission gave the assurance at the just concluded seminar for Insurance Journalist held in Awka Ibom with theme ‘Digital Transformation Of The Commission And Market Development Initiatives’
Delivering his paper on Digital Transformation Of the Commission’s Processes and Procedures, the Commission’s Deputy Director IT, Abiodun Aribike revealed that the Commission has built a data center to house computer Servers and associated components such as Storage and networking equipment under the right cooling and power conditions.
He assured that the commission will continue to work and upgrade on security to ensure that the portal is safe from cyber fraudsters
However, Aribike said “Security is what you work on everytime, we know that the bad boys are always ahead of the good boys but we will try our best to make sure that we control them.”
Describing the Datacenter he said “The facility includes raised floors and false ceilings, Access Control, Power System, Cooling System, Fire Suppression System, Networking and Cabling and Cameras and Monitoring System.
“The IT Unit manages a local Area network (LAN) with fibre Optic Back Bone for computers with structured cabling to cater for all offices within the headquarters. This over 200 dual node LAN distributed across the entire floors of the building provide reliable and qualitative bandwidth that guarantee smooth and uninterrupted data transmission across the network. A number of fault tolerance features were incorporated into the LAN for reliability and minimal network downtime”.
“NAICOM via its Wide Area Network (WAN) is connecting the Head Office to the Zonal offices. The interconnectivity will enable the staff of the zonal offices enjoy all the IT services currently operational in the Head Office”.
“The Commission has various servers and also enjoy Virtual Provisioning Service (VPS) Servers with Galaxy Backbone Ltd. This provides for high availability and redundancy”, he said.
