In a move aligned with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced its intention to transition the WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer-Based Examination (CBE).

The Council announced this in a statement Issued by the Public Affairs Department, Signed Ag. Head, Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola F. Adesina.

According to the Council, the innovation is set to debut with the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series, scheduled for February 2024.

The statement stated that the transformative shift in examination methodology is poised to usher in a new era of efficiency and adaptability for candidates participating in the WASSCE for Private Candidates.

The Objective Tests will be fully Computer Based, while the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid, with questions delivered on-screen, and candidates required to write answers on provided answer booklets.

The examination will be conducted in urban centers/cities, and provisions have been made to accommodate candidates with special needs. Registration for the examination is set to kick off on Monday, December 18, 2023.

To facilitate a smooth transition, WAEC has arranged for a Mock Examination in February 2024, allowing candidates to familiarize themselves with the new computer-based platform before the actual examination.

The Council urges prospective candidates to enhance their computer skills and prepare adequately for this innovative approach.

As Africa’s leading examining body dedicated to providing qualitative and reliable educational assessment, WAEC envisions a future where all its examinations will be delivered via computer technology.
