The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has denied claims circulating on social media that it has cancelled the 2025 English Language paper written on Wednesday, May 28.
In a statement released by the Council on Saturday, WAEC described the purported press release announcing the cancellation as fake, noting that it did not emanate from the Council and should be disregarded by the public.
According to the false information, the English Language examination had been cancelled due to alleged leaks, with a new date to be communicated. WAEC, however, clarified that the examination stands and no such cancellation has been made.
“The source of that information cannot be ascertained yet, but the Council is certain that the false claim is being peddled by mischief-makers who are bent on bringing the Council to disrepute to cause confusion and panic for candidates,” WAEC said.
The Council urged candidates, parents, and stakeholders to rely only on its verified social media accounts and accredited media outlets for authentic information.
It also reaffirmed that all official press releases are signed and issued by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
WAEC thanked the public for its continued trust over its 73 years of conducting examinations, pledging to maintain its commitment to excellence and innovation in delivering quality services to the Nigerian child.
