The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results of West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2021-First Series.
The Head of Nigeria National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Patrick Areghan, announced the result Today while speaking with Newsmen in the council’s office in Lagos.
According to him a total of Seven Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty-Nine (7,289) candidates who sat the examination at Two Hundred and Fifty-Two (252) centres Seven Thousand One Hundred and Seventy-Four (7,174) candidates, representing 98.42percent have their results fully processed and released.
However, he stated that One Hundred and Fifteen (115) candidates, representing 1.58percent have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors on the part of the candidates.
He assured that efforts are being made to speedily complete the processing to enable all the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.
On the statistics of the result, he said Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-Eight (2,938) candidates representing 40.31percent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
“Two Thousand One Hundred and Ninety-Five (2,195) candidates representing 30.11percent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC HNO revealed that the results of Five Hundred and Ninety-Nine (599) candidates, representing 8.22percent of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
He assured that the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course.
“This low number is as a result of the rigorous monitoring/inspection of centres embarked upon by the Council’s staff throughout the duration of the examination,” he added.
He urge Candidates who sat the examination to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org.
He reiterated that the number of candidates that had five credits, including English Language and Mathematics may not necessarily be a basis for judging the level of performance in this examination.
This he explained is because the examination is more or less a remedial one. Some candidates may just need only one or two papers, other than English Language and /or Mathematics to remedy their admission deficiencies.
He commended the Four Hundred and Thirty one (431) Examiners who participated in the Coordination and Marking Exercise adding that the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021 – First Series was successfully conducted under strict COVID-19 protocols.
