Varsity Don Outlines Benefits Of Child-Spacing.

A lecturer with the Federal University, Dutse, (FUD), in Jigawa state, Dr. Itar Abdul-RazaQ Rilwan has tasked media practitioners to step up the enlightenment of their immediate communities of operation the benefits associated with child-spacing to their wellbeing.

According to him, research had shown that child-spacing has as an important component in reducing risk of mothers’ complication and improving the reproductive health outcome in the society.

Speaking as a Guest Speaker at a one-day media roundtable put together with the support from The Challenge Initiative, (TCI), a Child Spacing Advocacy Group, in Dutse, Rilwan, who teaches at the Department of Economics and Development Studies of the university, underlined the critical roles the media plays in enlightening the populace.

Presenting a paper on “Family Planing/Child Birth Spacing a Critical Components in Population Management, Improving Maternal and New Born Child Health, Growth and Sustainable Development “

Rilwan pointed out that, timing pregnancy to create intervals between the birth of children improve the overall health and survival of the children and mothers which will resulted in reducing high rate of maternal and infant death.

According to him children born after adequate spacing tend to have more access to maternal care which could also reduce the cases of malnutrition and stunting rate that are among the cases Jigawa state have been battling to control.

“Families that embrace child spacing tend to have more resources and time to cater for education, health, proper training and Inculcating moral discipline to their children for better upbringing “

‘Furthermire, family planing helps state or society to have better chance for population management, resource allocation, achieving zero hunger, poverty eradication, enhance public service delivery for sustainable growth and development”

Dr Rilwan stressed the need for vigorous advocacy to the government to make family planing services accessible and affordable to all families and also embarks on public enlightenment on the health and social benefits of child birth spacing for achieving reduction in the high rate of maternal and child death in the society.

The TCI representative in the state, Ms Blessings Mohammed said, TCI has been providing support in Jigawa state through four thematic areas such as advocacy demands generation, services delivery and research/monitoring/evaluation for government to achieve sustainable improvement in maternal and new born child health (MNCH) outcome.

“Our goal in TCI is to sustain improvements in urban health systems and increase the use of modern contraception, innovative approach to ensures leadership and government-driven programming to enhance the scale, impact, efficiency, and sustainability of FP programme.’

Speaking on behalf of media working group in the, state. Comrade Muhammad Zangina promised to join hands with government, partners and other critical stakeholders to support the improvement of reproductive health in all aspects for enhancing Child survival, and family wellbeing.
