ASUU-LASU Revived As Union Members Dissolve Past Excos, Elect New Members

In a bid to resuscitate ASUU-LASU, members of the Union have elected new executive members that would ensure peace and champion the course of the Union.

The union disclosed in its official bulletin signed by the union Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim A. Bakare that the nomination of new Members was geared towards the initiative that ASUU-LASU MUST NOT DIE.

The new executive members are; Bakare, Adeolu Ibrahim PhD As Chairman, Babatope, Babafemi PhD As Vice Chairman, Idowu, O. Sylvester PhD as Secretary, Adebanjo, S.A PhD as Assistant Secretary, Oladosu, S.A PhD as Investment Officer, Olabode, S.O PhD as Treasurer, Dr. AJIBADE, Adeola (LASUCOM) as Internal Auditor and Awotundun, Ayodele PhD as Financial Secretary.

The Unionists, Wednesday 22nd January, 2020, called for the ASUU-LASU Congress where decisions were taken as they noted that the leadership vacuum that had been created since the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Exco in February, 2018 had to be filled.

Chairman of the Care-taker Committee, Comrade Adekoya, A.O. from the Department of Medicine LASUCOM, Ikeja who conducted the affairs of Congress dissolved the Caretaker Committee nominated in the meeting, transfered the mantle of leadership to the new ASUU-LASU Executives.

While congratulating the new Exco, the members of Congress charged them to facilitate the payment of members’ Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), to discuss with the Management the payment of the 20% increment of members’ basic salaries (i.e the new minimum wage), the restoration of the deduction of members’ check-off dues by the University Management, the need to work in partnership with Management to ensure the welfare of ASUU-LASU members and foster industrial harmony;

Furthermore, they urged them to engage in productive dialogue and offer constructive criticisms to Management as occasions demand, the need to Consult widely with all stakeholders from time to time in order to strengthen University peace, the need to do things in line with the Constitution and Code of Practice of our great Union, the need to Ensure that all campuses of LASU feel the impact of the Union to mention but a few

In his response to Congress members’ admonitions, the new Chairman of ASUU-LASU Comrade Ibrahim Adeola Bakare, on behalf of members of his Exco thanked Congress men and women for the confidence reposed in the Exco to steer the affairs of the Union, the very useful pieces of advice given them and their willingliness to support them.

He promised that the new Exco will be transparent, accessible, steadfast, consult widely on welfare matters that concern the members. He assured Congress that the new Exco will perform to the best of their ability.

It would be recalled that the Governing Council of the Lagos State University on the 7th of September, 2017 dismissed Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi (erstwhile Chairman of ASUU-LASU) for acts of misconduct bordering on extortion of money from students; and Dr. Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu (erstwhile Vice-Chairman of ASUU-LASU) for acts of misconduct bordering on manipulation of students’ results.

By virtue of their dismissal, they ceased to be members of ASUU-LASU from the 7th of September, 2017.
