The Senate of the University of Abuja has elected two representatives to the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
They are Professor Gboyega Kolawole of the Department of English and Professor Kasim Waziri of the Department of Public Law.
The election took place during an extraordinary meeting of Senate held Tuesday on the Main Campus.
Other contestants at the keenly contested elections include Professor Rosemary Udeozor of the Department of Educational Management, Professor Uwakwe Abugu, Department of Private and Property Law, and Professor Salamatu Machunga, Department of Microbiology.
In accordance with the University of Abuja Act, the two elected professors will join the Pro-Chancellor and two other members of the Governing Council on the Selection Board, which is responsible for recommending suitable candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor, said a statement posted of its social media handle.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, who presided over the meeting, congratulated the elected members and charged them to be fair and transparent in carrying out their assignment.
He thanked members of the University Senate for their cooperation and for conducting a free and fair election.
Kolawole is a professor of folklore and comparative literature, while Waziri, a professor of law specialises in intellectual property and competition law.
