Striking Unions at Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday aborted the institution’s examination scheduled to commence in the morning.
The unions under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists NAAT, further locked out students from entering the university.
This left the students stranded and disappointed as there was no immediate explanation or directive from the university authority.
The Joint Action committee of the unions had earlier set mid-night Friday 5, 2021 as deadline for the commencement nationwide strike should the federal government fail to yield to their demands.
But it was least expected that the unions in Lagos State owned university would immediately comply.
Some of the unions members contacted had among other grievances alleged shortfall in salaries payment and allowances, mismanagement and corruption.
However, the Chairman, SSANU-LASU Chapter, Saheed Oseni, explained that the three unions in the university complied with the strike in line with the directive of their national bodies.
