Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc (STI) marked Workers’ Day with a double celebration on Thursday.
The underwriting firm honoured long-serving staff while commemorating its 30th anniversary a milestone the company credits to the resilience and commitment of its workforce.
At the Appreciation Day event held at the company’s head office in Lagos, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olaotan Soyinka, paid tribute to Nigerian workers and lauded STI employees for their pivotal role in the company’s journey over the last three decades.
“Today is more than a public holiday. It’s a moment to acknowledge the people who power progress workers,” Soyinka said. “At Sovereign Trust Insurance, we understand that the strength of any institution lies in the quality and dedication of its people. Our story is one of resilience, growth, and shared commitment and our staff are at the heart of it.”
He noted that every legitimate form of labour, regardless of status or role, deserves recognition. Soyinka reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuous investment in its people, adding that STI would continue to empower its workforce through training, innovation, and a work culture anchored on professionalism and customer focus.
“We’re not just celebrating our past we’re investing in our future,” he said. “We’ll keep building our human capital, embracing new technologies, and ensuring that our people have the right support to thrive. Their labour will never go in vain.”
One of the high points of the event was the recognition of staff who have served with the company since its early days. These employees were honoured for their loyalty, professionalism, and long-term contributions to STI’s evolution in Nigeria’s insurance industry.
In her remarks, Head of Human Resources and Capital Development, Adeola Onichabor, commended the management for its consistent focus on staff welfare and career growth.
She described STI’s workforce as a blend of seasoned professionals and dynamic young talents, united by a shared commitment to excellence.
“We have every reason to be proud of how far we’ve come. Our people are our advantage,” Onichabor said. “This organization is not just marking 30 years of doing business; we are celebrating 30 years of building people.”
She also urged staff to remain focused, collaborative, and customer-centric in their approach, as STI aims to deepen its relevance in an increasingly competitive industry.
