Nigerians have expressed anger over the Presidential prerogative alibi proffered by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, against the resolution of the Senate asking President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Service Chiefs for failure to curb the growing insecurity nationwide.
The resentments of Nigerians expressed via Twitter, noted that the current service chiefs had been given enough time to exhaust their strategies in combating insecurity without success.
They maintained that President Buhari should be proactive in taking decisions just as presidential prerogative should be applied in addressing the wishes of the citizens.
The presidential spokesman had tweeted via @FemAdesina: “President Buhari notes the resolution of the Senate asking Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked. The Presidency reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and the Commander-in-Chief will do the best for the country at all times.”
But reacting to Femi Adesina, Arc Kashua via @ArcKashua said, “That is nice, it quite unfortunate is that we have a boko haram leader and sponsorer as the president of Nigeria and we have commanders of boko haram as security chiefs… We are here losing fathers who have not seen their unborn children, young girls now turn widows
“Siblings are now without brothers, Parents weeping for their young son’s been use as sacrifice by the Asorock business men. And this wicked soul is online to tell us what is “prerogative” and what is not the president, let buhari, his children, security chief and you go to sambisa.”
Also, EmmanSpeaks via @ENGEE7,
said “I pray the deaths Nigerians suffer everyday gets to your household too. Maybe at that point, you will learn not to put out these senseless press statements”
On his part, Isaac Nasim Salami via @salami_isaacnas, said “It’s ok to ask for the resignation of service chiefs as stated by the senate, but I am of the believe that the senate is usurping the powers of the C-in-C by asking that they should be sacked. That prerogative is definitely that of Mr President”
However, ᴏᴍᴀsᴏʀᴏ ᴀʟɪ ᴏᴠɪᴇ™☤ via @OvieAli, said “That’s true . Sacking the police IGP did not reduce insecurity by bandits. But people are dying in the NorthWest , with Katsina being the worst hit. FG should begin to do things differently and find solution to the widespread insecurity. Maybe community policing might help.
But Omo-T, The Watcher via @omotayo_winners, said “But presidential prerogative should not be abused in an unconstitutional manner. Few heads in the Villa cannot know better than all Nigerians asking for change of guards in the Defense Headquarters. At best all Nigerians want is results and performance. People are dying!”
While Abubakar Mahmud via @Danmahmudu, said “No one is debating the president do not have the prerogative but he seems not to have the guts to use it and country can not continue wait for more failures.”
Another writer through @almunawwara64, said “Femi! enough of all the too much ‘talking drums’ in leadership and governance approach. We, Nigerians require proactive, viable and selfless service delivery blended with synergy; not some legislatively induced, bench_warmers.”
While OYIANA AUGUSTINE, through @OyianaA, reacted saying, “We know it is his right to change at will but it takes a good leader to yield to good advice like such. Those men are due for change leaving them is like the president lacks technical know how which I know he does not, new people with zeal to make security work should be brought”
