Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have secured the release of kidnapped 80-year-old Woman in a sting operation by its personnel with assistance from other security agencies in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi, who confirmed the development during a media briefing to showcase the achievements recorded by his command in Dutse on Wednesday said the victim, Hajia Hajara, who was kidnapped from Minjibir LGA was rescued by his personnel at Sule Tankarkar in Jigawa state.
CP Abdullahi disclosed that on May 16 the command received an intelligent report to the effect that, a group of armed men, numbering about 12 riding on five motorcycles stormed the residence of one Hajiya Hajara 80-year-old of Minjibir LGA Kano state and forcefully took her away on their motorcycles and attempted to pass through Jigawa State.
“Through strategic intelligence gathering, coordinated and aggressive raids, and the unwavering dedication of our personnel, particularly Police personnel from Gumel, Gagarawa, Gujungu, Sule Tankarkar Garki and Ringim Divisions led by Gumel Area Commander, alongside local vigilantes, hunters, and Yanbulala, the Command has achieved a major breakthrough in bursting a gang of kidnappers around Garki and Sule Tankarkar axis that terrorise Kano and Jigawa states.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence report which indicated that the hoodlums were hibernating between Danzomo and Medi villages of Sule Tankarkar/ Garki LGAs.
“Consequently, the police personnel and other local security outfits combed the general area for possible rescue of the victim and arrest the perpetrators. In the process, the security forces engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun dual.
“During the encounter, five members of notorious kidnapping syndicate lost their lives while five suspects were arrested including the kingpin, Yahaya, 35 of Katore Fulani settlement, Garki LGA, who eventually sustained a leg injury.”
He said the suspects were taken into custody and currently assisting the police in their investigation. in addition, he said, the police recorded the further achievements including the recovery of two AK-47 riffles, one Multipurpose Machine Gun, (MMG), 14 live ammunition two motorcycles and three mobile handsets believed to be used by the suspects.
“I’m pleased to confirm to you that during the operation, the kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family. A medical examination confirmed that the victim is in stable condition.”
The police chief also confirmed the arrest of over 25 other suspects for various offences in different parts of the state ranging from gun running, drugs dealing child abuse and sundry crimes.
For instance, he said from April to date the police carried out raids on black spots and criminal hideouts in Sara town and Gwaram Sabuwa both in Gwaram LGA, about 14 suspects were arrested and various categories of illicit drugs were found in their possession.
Some of the confiscated drugs included 380 pieces of Exol 5, 330 D5 Valium, 44 pieces of Tramadol, 84 pieces of Rubber Solution, some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp as well as three liters of Sock and Die.
Abdullahi also confirmed that, that the police us currently questioning a 40-year-old man named Abdulhamid Aliyu for allegedly locking his seven-year-old biological son, Aliyu Abdulhamid, who spent five days in detention since on 29/04/2025, as a result, he sustained various degrees of injuries on his face, body and feet.
He said the arrest followed a complaint by the suspect’s neighbour Auwalu Muhammad Inuwa of Hakimi Street, Sara town in Gwaram LGA, who reported that his neighbour locked and tortured his biological son.
“Upon receipt of the report, patrol team attached to Sara Division drafted to scene, where the suspect was arrested, victim rescued and rushed to FMC Birnin Kudu for medical treatment. Case was transferred to SCID for discreet investigation and later charged to court.
“Similarly, On 12/05/2025 at about 1700hrs, one Yusuf Adamu ‘m’ age 25yrs of Dingu village Ningi LGA, Bauchi state alongside one Sadiq Abdullahi ‘m’ age 25yrs of Kofar Ruwa quarters, Kano state reported at B/kudu Division that, some unknown persons lured them into the bush with a pretense of changing US Dollar with Nigerian currency.
“Upon receipt of the report, Detectives attached to B/Kudu Division in collaboration with Yan Bulala swiftly responded and arrested one Halilu Da’u ‘m’ age 25yrs, Abubakar Abdullahi ‘m’ age 20yrs, Muazu Aliyu ‘m’ age 25yrs and Mu’azu Garba ‘m’ age 21yrs all of Sundumina town, B/Kudu LGA in possession of one hundred and sixty-three 100 notes of counterfeited US Dollars and two original 100 notes of US Dollars.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to be fraudsters terrorizing B/Kudu LGA and its environs. The case is under investigation.
“On 12/5/25 at about 1700hrs patrol team attached to Babura Division, while on routine market patrol at Yarkirya village, Babura LGA acted on a tip off and arrested one Ibrahim Yahaya ‘m’ age 48yrs of Gwale LGA Kano state and brought to station for questioning,
When search was conducted on the suspect, the following exhibits were recovered in his possession, including counterfeit ₦1,132,000.00, one counterfeit of one hundred note of US Dollar, 14 pieces of Egyptian Pounds totaling about 70 Pounds, as well as the sum of ₦60,000 and six ATM cards of different banks,
On interrogation, the suspects confessed to be fraudsters terrorizing Kano state and some part of Jigawa state. Case is under investigation.
