The Nigerian Police, Zamfara State Command has beef up security and mobilized for search and rescue operation of the latest number of 73 students abducted from a school in Governor Bello Matawalle’s hometown.
It has beefed up security and confirmed that 73 students of Government Day Secondary school (GDSS) were carted away by bandits on Wednesday from Maradun, the home town of the Governor, Bello Matawalle.
Matawalle had few days ago in a bid to address the growing activities of bandits in Zamfara State ordered the closure of weekly markets and all filling stations in the state, except those in the state capital and Local Government headquarters.
This follows the return of 19 students of the state’s College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, who were kidnapped by bandits from their school on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
According to a statement by the police, “The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to confirm the abduction of 73 Students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya in Maradun LGA.
“The abduction followed the invasion of the school by large number of armed bandits that occurred today (Wednesday) at exactly 1122hrs.
“The Command under the leadership of CP Ayuba N Elkanah psc+ has deployed search and rescue team that was mandated to work in synergy with the military to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students
“The CP further appealed to the general Public especially parents and relatives of the abducted students to exercise patience and continue to pray for the success of the Ongoing rescue operation.
“Security has also been been beefed up at Kaya Village and environ to forestall further attack on the communities.
“Further development will be made known to members of the public” said the statement by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Mohammed Shehu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Gusau.
