Jigawa state governor Umar Namadi has reaffirmed his commitment to taking the state to a greater heights as he guns for the second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the commitment when was affirmed as the sole governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) at the Dutse Stadium in the state capital on Thursday.
Party stakeholders from all 287 wards across the state’s 27 local government areas gathered in their thousands to witness the endorsement of the governor for a second term.
The affirmation was supervised by the national committee from the APC national headquarters, chaired by Isa Sadiq Achida with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders were present to witness the exercise.
Similarly, prominent party stalwarts at the occasion included two past governors of the state namely Ali Saad Birnin Kudu and Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, a former deputy governor and deputy Chief of Staff in the Presidency Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the Minister of State Education Prof. Suwaiba Saad Ahmad, serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies, the Speaker of the State Assembly Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin amongst others.
The governor declared that he was humbled by the overwhelming show of confidence on him and his administration, saying It was a call to do more for the people of the state.
He pledged to consolidate on his administration’s achievements if given another mandate in 2027.
“Our focus remains on delivering people-oriented projects and improving the lives of every citizen in Jigawa,” the governor stated.
Namadi also urged party members to remain united and avoid actions that could weaken the APC ahead of the elections.
He commended the national committee, INEC officials, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.
The governor also appreciated party leaders, stakeholders and members for allowing him to contest unopposed and assured them of his continued commitment to executing more development projects.
He assured party faithful that he would justify the confidence reposed in him and continue working tirelessly for the success of the APC across the state and the country.
Earlier Chairman of the state Governorship Primary Election Committee, Achida said the process was conducted in the presence of security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that the Electoral Act provides two options for the emergence of candidates: either through consensus or by conducting primary elections where there is a contest.
According to him, delegates from the 287 political wards in the state unanimously endorsed Governor Namadi as the APC’s sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
“Based on the powers bestowed on me as chairman of the governorship election committee, and in accordance with Sections 84 and 86 of the Electoral Act as well as the APC constitution, I hereby affirm and declare Governor Umar Namadi as the sole candidate of the APC for the 2027 governorship election,” he said.
Achida also presented the governor with the party’s certificate of return as the duly elected governorship candidate of the APC.
Speaking at the event, the APC state chairman, Ahmad Maikudi Garba recalled that the primary election was a culmination were conducted in only three federal constituencies, while candidates in the remaining eight constituencies emerged through consensus arrangements.
He added that all the three senatorial, House of Representatives candidates and the 30 State House of Assembly candidates also emerged through consensus, commending party members and stakeholders for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the party primaries across the state.
He urged members to remain united and work towards securing victory for the APC at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
