The Director General of Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Doyin Okupe, has resigned his appointment.
His resignation follows his conviction on Monday, by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, for violating some provisions of Money Laundering Act which specifically deals with limitations of receiving cash payments without going through the banking channels.
He was convicted of receiving N240 Million cash from the former National Security Adviser to Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasuki in 2015 and sentenced to two years imprisonment with option of N13 million payment before deadline of 4.30 pm Monday.
Dr. Okupe, however, beat the deadline and paid, thereby gained his freedom from being sent to jail.
On Tuesday, in a letter to the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, Dr Okupe noted that he has invested too much in the campaign to allow his personal travails to become a source of distraction.
He informed Obi about his resolve to step aside while advising for the appointment of another Director General who will carry on with the assignment with “zero distractions”.
In a follow up tweet, Dr Okupe reiterated his commitment to standing by Peter Obi, the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns of the Labour Party till God grants them victory.

“It’s time to step aside. But I am with PO and the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns till God gives us victory in Jesus Name.”
