NLC, TUC Affiliate Unions Join Nationwide Indefinite Strike

Following the nationwide indefinite strike declared by umbrella labour unions: Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), effective 00.01 midnight Monday, most affiliate unions have directed its members to down tools.

The affiliate unions through memos from their head offices have directed their members to ensure compliance in line with the directives from the NLC and TUC.

As at the time of filing this report, OPTIMUM TIMES has sighted over 14 memos of affiliate unions of NLC and TUC directing its members to ensure effective compliance with the nationwide indefinite strike.

Those sighted include:  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), National Union Of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees, and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANP),

Others are Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN); Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), National Union of Postal and Telecommunication Employees (NUPTE), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
