The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has achieved over 172.67 million SIM-NIN linkage as at May, 2025 just as total enrollment stands at over 122 million as at last month, July 2025.

Already, the Commission is almost set to launch in October, 2025, a new General Multipurpose Card (GMPC) which “will provide seamless access to government services, financial platforms, health insurance, and other digital ecosystems.”

The NIMC Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coke-Odusote, made these disclosures while speaking at the opening session of a two-day roundtable with Online Editors under the aegis of Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE). The theme of the event taking place in Abuja is “Building trust in digital identity: Strengthening media partnerships for a secure inclusive ecosystem.”

She explained that since January 2022, when NIN enrolment stood at 72.7 million, the Commission has recorded a phenomenal increase.

According to Engr. Coker-Odusote whose address was presented by the NIMC’s Director (Strategy and Programmes Office), Dr. Alvan Ikoku, “As of July 2025, enrolment stands at over 122 million and counting.

“This represents a 49% increase in enrolment rate, which is a clear testament to the progress we have made in just over three years. Monthly, millions of Nigerians are now being enrolled and issued a verifiable means of identification, unlocking access to critical services in education, agriculture, healthcare, social protection, and beyond.”

Further, she said the Commission has focused efforts on addressing the deep-rooted issues that once plagued the identity enrolment process, disclosing that extortion and unofficial fees had been curtailed by over 40% due to enforcement of a transparent fee structure by the Commission nationwide.

Stressing that “Enrolment remains free, and modification and authentication fees are standardised and publicly disclosed”, she said this can be accessed in the Commission’s website.

For ease of enrollment nationwide, she said that over 1,700 revalidated Front-End Enrolment Partners and agents who are under strict monitoring and supervision have been trained to serve in communities professionally and inclusively.

“Their services are now complemented by dedicated grievance redress officers deployed across all 36 states, ensuring that any concerns from enrollees or agents are addressed promptly through a 24/7 toll-free line.

“NIMC also adheres to the highest level of data security protocols. Data Collected by NIMC is used only for the purpose of issuing the NIN and confirming the identity of the NIN holder”, she assured.

The Chairman of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE), Shola Akingboye, assured NIMC of balanced reporting of its activities.

“As society’s watchdog, and in line with our mandate at ACOE to evaluate the programs of various government agencies, we aim to promote and support all viable initiatives, upholding the objectivity, balance, and accuracy that our profession demands.

“We are therefore using this opportunity to assure NIMC of our unwavering media support in realising its vision for the benefit of Nigerians and the nation as a whole”, he stated.
