NBC Wields Big Hammer, Bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s Song, ‘Tell Your Papa’

The latest protest song by Eedris Abdulkareem, titled, “Tell Your Papa” has drawn the ire of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) which ordered its ban across airwaves in Nigeria.

In a widely circulated statement, NBC has banned the song, saying it is inappropriate for broadcast.

NBC’s Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, in a statement disclosed this Thursday.

Titled: ‘Restriction on broadcasting ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem’ NBC said: “The National Broadcasting Commission has identified the song ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast due to its objectionable nature.

“It is, therefore, classified as Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB), as it violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. The commission requests that your station exercise discretion and refrain from airing this song to maintain responsible broadcasting standards. Your cooperation and commitment to upholding it is greatly appreciated. Thank you”.

Eedris Abdulkareem is renowned for hard-hitting songs like Jaga Jaga, Emilokan, which have always ruffled feathers.
