By Mohammed Abubakar, Dutse
The Jigawa state Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed appreciation to the national body, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), for successfully resolving the leadership crisis that has dogged the Dutse branch of the association.
The governor made the appreciation, when he played host to the President of the NBA Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, (SAN) in his office in Dutse.
The NBA Chieftain was in Dutse to solicit he governor’s and state government assistance on the forth coming Annual General Conference scheduled for early next month which the state is co-hosting with the neighbouring Kano state.
However, reflecting on the leadership crisis which engulfed the Dutse branch of the association resulting in the emergence of two fractional chairmen, with one faction being supported by the state government and another being supported by the national leadership of the association led by Maikyau’s predecessor, Mr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the governor commended Maikyau led administration for successfully resolving and uniting the factions.
Namadi said the NBA in Jigawa is now stable with the factional groups rallying round Mustapha Kashim-led executives at the Dutse branch.
His words, “In the last three years in Jigawa, we’ve had a lot of issues with our branch in Jigawa, the president (Maikyau) has personally taken it upon himself, even when he was not the president of the NBA and intervened, he called all the parties, discussed with them and that has resulted to the situation where the crisis has been resolved now.
“We thank you for the fatherly role you played in resolving the crisis in Dutse branch. He has done a good job for us and that is why today we have a very stable and cooperative branch officials that are working for the good of the state and the legal profession.
“Thank you for the intervention, we really appreciate it and we are not taking your intervention for granted”, Namadi said.
The governor also appreciated the NBA for promoting the adherence of rule of law in the country.
Earlier in his remarks, Maikyau solicited for support from the governor for the Co-hosting of conference in Kano. It’s the first time ever the section of the legal practice (SLP) is holding in the Northern Nigeria.
“We invite your excellency to the conferences, the first conference is on Section of Legal Practice which will hold on 2nd-5th June, 2024 in Kano.It is tagged the Arewa Conference while the subsequent conference which is for the entire bar is holding on the 23 to the 30 of August in Lagos.
