The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Rotimi Edu, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s insurance industry.
In separate tributes, both institutions hailed the late insurance icon as a visionary leader, distinguished professional, and strong advocate for the advancement of insurance practice in Nigeria.
NAICOM, in a statement signed by Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, said the industry had lost a towering figure whose leadership and dedication left an enduring legacy within the insurance broking profession.
According to the Commission, Edu’s tenure as President of NCRIB was marked by brilliance, foresight, and an unwavering commitment to the growth of the industry.
“He was a man of uncommon intellect and boundless energy, a cauldron of ideas, and a passionate advocate for reform and innovation,” the statement read.
NAICOM further noted that despite personal health challenges, the late Edu remained deeply committed to the insurance profession and continued to contribute actively to the advancement of the sector.
“The void created by his departure is immense, not only for his family and the Quicklink team but also for the NCRIB and the entire insurance community,” the Commission stated, adding that his legacy of integrity, courage, and progressive leadership would continue to inspire future generations of practitioners.
Similarly, the NIA, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Kunle Ahmed, described the late Edu as an exceptional leader and visionary insurance practitioner whose contributions significantly shaped the Nigerian insurance ecosystem.
The Association said Edu dedicated decades of his professional life to promoting professionalism, ethical standards, and regulatory development within the industry.
“As the 21st President of the NCRIB, he championed initiatives that fostered deeper collaboration between underwriters and brokers, effectively strengthening the unity of our industry,” the NIA stated.
The Association added that his passing had created “a massive vacuum” that would be deeply felt across the insurance and wider financial services sectors.
The NIA also highlighted Edu’s contributions as a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), noting that he consistently brought strategic insight into industry discussions and advocated reforms aligned with modern economic realities.
Both NAICOM and the NIA extended condolences to the leadership and members of NCRIB, the late Edu’s family, colleagues, and associates, while praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those affected by the loss.
Industry stakeholders described Edu as one of the most respected voices in the insurance broking profession, whose influence extended beyond brokerage into policy advocacy, industry integration, and institutional development within Nigeria’s insurance market.
