The National Association Of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to maximize his reelection for a second term to actualize the realization of Nigeria Air, Abuja Runway Project and other laudable projects as contained in the aviation road map document.
In a detailed presentation on Safety Promotion, Engr. Uhuegho Kole has highlighted Attitude, Communication, Competing Priorities, Employee buy in to mention but a few as defiances to safety promotion, urging Airlines to explore these factors in order to ensure maximum safety in the Industry.
The President Of NAAPE, Engr. Galadima Abednego who made this call at the NAAPE safety workshop on Promoting Aviation Safety In Nigeria recently held in Lagos, congratulated the President on his reelection for a second term.
In his address, the NAAPE President insisted that safety is the association’s topmost priority as it recently instituted the Annual Aviation Safety Award (AASA) for both public and private aviation organizations.
He noted that “the selection and ranking of the awardees will be coordinated by a board of eminent and impartial professionals from the aviation industry” adding that the awards are not aimed at de-marketing any organization but to motivate organizations to imbibe and entrench safety culture.
Reiterating on the Association’s track record, Abednego said “for over three decades NAAPE has being firm in its advocacy for the rights, privileges and welfare of Nigerian pilots and aircraft engineers on the other hand, ensuring professionalism and professional excellence on the other hand, while promoting safety of the aviation industry.
During his presentation, Engr. Uhuegho Kole Ph.D admonished airlines to grow their safety beyond Compliance adding that safety promotion covers all mission critical mechanisms that allows safety airline’s safety management system program work in the operational environment.
The Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Mr. Akin Olateru represented by Director Engineering, AIB, ENGR. Mohammed Wali, in his speech noted that aside from investigating accidents and serious incidents when they occur, they have also in the last two years and as a contribution to aviation safety, reviewed all their safety recommendations to determine their effectiveness in keeping the airspace safe.
“I implore all pilots, engineers and stakeholders to note that safety is not a one man, we all need to play our part to ensure a safer air space for Nigeria that will be worthy of emulation by other countries across the globe.” He urged.
Also speaking, The Managing Director, NAMA, Mr Fola Akinkuotu who was duly represented by Mr. Matthew, in his remarks stated, when Air, Passengers and cargoes traffic grows safety becomes an issue, for this reason was the Global Air Navigational Plan made which focuses in enhancing capacity to accommodate the growth.
