Many Injured As Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Voters In Borno

Many persons were reported to have sustained various degree of injuries while on queue to cast their votes in Borno State.

The incident took place on Saturday behind Gwoza Hills, when a group of Boko Haram terrorists opened several shots targeting voters on queue behind the Mandara Mountains Gwoza.

Gwoza, which is located about 135 km away from the state capital, Maiduguri is at the Southern part of Borno Senatorial District and a former strong hold of Boko Haram insurgents .

Security sources said that attackers suspected to be from the camp of Ali Ngulde, of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, Boko Haram faction, carried out the attack as the voters were about to start voting and in the process, injured five persons comprising of two women and three males.

Another security source, said the attack even disrupted voting process for some hours as the electorates scampered for safety with many injured in the process.

The sources further explained that the threat was repelled by the troops of the Nigerian Army who responded swiftly and chased the terrorists to the mountain.

It was gathered that normalcy has been restored as people have continued their voting exercise and calm has also returned to the area.

Meanwhile, The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, has confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying that the attack affected five people, who sustained various injuries and were rushed to the nearest health center for medical attention.
