Maiduguri Rocket Attacks: It Seems Insurgents Came Very Close To Town, Zulum Laments

Governor of Borno State Babagana Umar Zulum, has lamented that the terrorist groups, Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) came close to Maiduguri town before launching their attacks Saturday Morning.

He urged the military to wake up and ensure adequate surveillance and patrols around.

He spoke while visiting the scenes of attacks after the early morning rocket attacks on 1,000 housing estate and three other places in Maiduguri by assailants suspected to be members of the Boko Haram/ISWAP.

1,000 housing estate is located along Kano-Maiduguri road near the 333 military battalion.

Commenting during the visit, Zulum noted that the insurgents came close to Maiduguri before firing the explosives. He urged her he military to wake up and ensure adequate patrols.

“It seems the insurgents came very close to the town, the military has to wake up and ensure adequate surveillance. This is something that we can avert its occurrence. For the insurgents to have come such close to fire rockets, I think there is something wrong that we should have to check.” Zulum said.

Governor Zulum stated this on Saturday at Ngomari Airport when he paid a sympathy visit to the victims of the early morning rockets attack.

The Governor, however, assured that government will do everything to prevent further attacks on Maiduguri and its environs.

“We have to fortify Maiduguri town, we have to ensure adequate patrols on a daily basis to avert future attacks. It is very sad and unfortunate we have to witness this kind of attacks at this time.” Zulum said.

In the same vein, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has extended his sympathizes to those affected by the attack.

Reports said while no life was lost, houses, cars and other properties were destroyed by the multiple rocket attacks.

“I wish to sympathies with those affected by today’s attack, I will constitute a small committee to ascertain the level in of the damage and advise government on how to avert future occurrence. Zulum said.
