Leadway Assurance has partnered the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to reward motorists complying with road safety regulations under a renewed nationwide advocacy campaign aimed at reducing preventable road accidents in Nigeria.
The initiative, tagged “Arrive Alive Campaign,” comes amid rising concerns over road traffic fatalities, with FRSC data showing that Nigeria recorded 10,446 road crashes in 2025, representing a 9.2 per cent increase from 9,570 cases recorded in 2024. The crashes resulted in 5,289 deaths nationwide.
As part of the campaign, motorists who demonstrated compliance with safety requirements, including seat belt usage, possession of valid vehicle documents, and installation of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits, were recognised and rewarded during sensitisation exercises held at the FRSC office and motor park in Ojota, Lagos.
The campaign also featured a webinar themed “Arrive Alive Because Life is Priceless,” where Lagos State Sector Commander of FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, and Leadway’s Head of Technical Risk Management, Otuyemi Olatunde, highlighted major causes of road accidents, including driver distraction, negligence, and reckless road behaviour.
Executive Director, Technical and Operations at Leadway Assurance, Olufunmilayo Amanwa, said the campaign reflected the company’s commitment to protecting lives beyond insurance coverage.
According to her, the increasing rate of road crashes underscores the urgent need for sustained behavioural change and stronger public awareness on road safety practices.
Also speaking, Hamzat said the partnership reinforced efforts by the FRSC to improve compliance with road safety regulations nationwide, stressing that most road traffic accidents were preventable when motorists acted responsibly.
Stakeholders said the collaboration highlights growing private sector involvement in national road safety campaigns and could strengthen public compliance with traffic regulations through sustained advocacy and behavioural reinforcement initiatives.
