LASU Awards Scholarships To 220 Undergraduates

The event was held at the Main University Auditorium Complex, Ojo, Lagos on Thursday, 24th May, 2018.

 

Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju A. Fagbohun enlists the awarding of scholarships to 220 students who finished the 2016/2017 academic session with a cumulative grade point of 4.5 and above amongst other past one year achievements of the Lagos state university (LASU)

These achievements were pointed out on Thursday at LASU 22nd convocation ceremony which took place at the school auditorium.

Fagbohun, in his speech at the ceremony said that LASU successfully accredited the Lagos State University Open Distance Learning Research and Institute (LASU-ODLRI) by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Executions of various Memoranda of Understanding , construction and commissioning of Faculty of Dentistry Research and Service centre with State-of-the art equipment to compliment the dental facility in LASUTH.

In furtherance, the University matriculated 4,343 students for the 2017/2018 academic session, completed the centre for entrepreneurial studies building with funding from tertiary education Trust Fund, presented Eight inaugural lectures to deepened intellectual discourse and engagement with the community and established a career development centre that provides our students with services such as career coaching and mentorship; internship and part-time job opportunities; and organization of professional networking career fairs.

He added that the Institution graduated 201 Diploma Students, 21,481 First degree students, 7,982 Postgraduates and 46 PhD students.

Also speaking, Pro-Chancellor, Lagos State University, professor Adebayo M.A. Ninalowo said “it is also germane to note that the governing council has developed a robust and elaborate five-year strategic plan spanning the period 2016-2021. That is with a view of capturing essential future requirements of the University. Furthermore, the Governing council is convinced that to take Lagos State University to greater heights that we all desire as mapped out in the strategic plan, substantial fund is required”.

Admonishing the Graduands, Chancellor, Lagos State University, Hon. Justice Adesola Oguntade admonished the graduands to put integrity first in their work in life, follow their instincts and curiosity, be bold and take risk and above all, enjoy what you do.

He also advised them to see their studies in the institution as a lifetime of learning and also use that learning to leave every situation better than it was when they arrive in their next steps in life.
