Lagos Government Approves 6000 Bed Hostels For LASU

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has approved the development of a 6,000 bed hostel for the Lagos State University (LASU).

This is in a bid to make LASU academically competitive, financially viable and most importantly conducive for learning

Also, the Chairman, Caverton Offshore Group, Mr. Aderemi Makanjuola who clocks 70 on Saturday, 24th November, 2018, donated 500-seater Ultra Modern Lecture Theatre to LASU.

The Lagos State Governor and Chairman Caverton offshore Group spoke at the Lagos State University Special Lecture to mark the birthday of MR. Aderemi Makanjuola and the official opening of Aderemi Makanjuola Ultra Modern Lecture Theatre

Optimum Times reports that The University also marked the presentation of a book titled “Global Aids and Tertiary Education: An Overview” at same event.

The Visitor to the University, Governor Ambode congratulated the VC, Pro-VC and team of the university saying that they have repositioned the university and placing her on the path of growth and progress

”I believe strongly that the high level of commitment demonstrated by the management has played a major role in attracting support of corporate organization and individuals, one of whom we are gathered here to celebrate.”

In view of the realization that Lagos State is the 5th largest economy in Africa based on the size of its GDP, have its strength on the teaming population of which youth constitute a majority, the Ambode administration has determined that the continued prosperity of Lagos State is dependent on a well educated population that is competent to create value and to take up opportunities in the global economy.

The Governor who listed some of the investments by his administration over the past three and half years said “over the past three and half years we have invested N15 billion in building school infrastructure to ensure our students can learn in a conducive environment.”

“We have employed 3400 primary and secondary teachers to improve the teacher to student ratio as well as the quality of learning in our schools.”

“To ensure that every student in our tertiary institution has theskills, knowledge and mindset required to function effectively in the world of work, we set up the ‘Ready Set Work’. Over 34,000 students have graduated from that prograg and making impact in their spheres.”

“With the future in view, we also took up an ambitious mission to position Lagos as a technology frontier in Africa by teaching Lagos residents to code, the Initiative was launch in 2017, with a handful of coding centre in between government and private schools, as at today we have set up coding centre in 648 primary and secondary schools across the state and we are offering free coding classes to residents at over 40 out of school centre.” He stated

The Philanthropist, Makanjuola urged other dignitaries at the event to give back to the Lagos State reminding them that Education is the bedrock of the Nation.

“it is not for me to tell you to donate because everybody has what he wants to use his money for but everybody knows that Education is important and if we have a good environment for education students will go out and do better”

“I got a Scholarship from Lagos State to go to Leicester University also from Lagos to go to Manchester University and my monthly salary was paid so why won’t I give back to the government.” He said

He commended the LASU team for their integrity and support to ensure that the building was finished within six months.
