Kano State Government has said it is committed to entrenching system that will eliminate the attitudes of falsifying information for self interest as well as doing things without recourse to facts and figures.

The State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, gave this assurance at the meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics ( NCCS) held in Kano, Thursday.

He lamented that these types of attitudes have, no doubt, retarded development in the past by making it difficult to determine where to provide essential services and in what quantity.

According to him, “To enable us achieve some developments, therefore, government will provide the Bureau with all the support required to enable it discharge its responsibilities of providing the State Government with reliable socio-economic statistics for policy formulation, execution, monitoring and evaluation.

“It is for this reason that the present democratic Government places high premium on Statistical Information as an ingredient for effective planning and implementation of its policies and programmes.”

Governor Ganduje recalled that one of the main concerns of Governments economic programmes is meeting the 17No SDGs goals in Nigeria through timely coordination.

“To make this happen, Government will want to have at its finger tips the milestones on each of 169 targets and 232 key performance indicators in Nigeria.

“In the same vein, to address the situation in the country, there must be reliable and timely indicators on major sectors of the economy such as Agriculture, Education, Manufacturing, Mines and Power, Health, Transport, to mention but a few”, he said.

Further, he said Kano State has a well-established Bureau of Statistics backed by law and is determined to provide the Bureau with all the required support to enable it function effectively and efficiently.

He said Kano State Government has conducted and completed 2021-Fulani Herdsmen Headcount across the 44 LGAs by the State Bureau of Statistics, adding that the report of the exercise resulted to multiple policy and programs formulations.
